Kindle and Nook for PC.
APPLICATIONS
Kindle for PC This is the PC application for the popular Amazon hand held ebook reader. You will also find other applications
for various devices. To download free and sample books from the Amazon site you will need to register your software application
and provide a credit card. However, a large number of books are available via free public domain sites that can be converted
and used in the application. If you supply the registration information it is possible to download directly from Amazon both free
and paid books. Amazon then monitors the downloads in a remote location. For conversion information see Mobipocket Creator
Calibre. Kindle uses "AZW" format for their books.
Nook for PC The information about the Nook is basically the same as that of the Kindle, above. The differences being, Nook for
PC is the PC application for Barnes and Noble "Nook" ebook reader. The formate used by Nook is "epub." Like the Kindle of PC
Nook for PC requires registration and credit card to use all the features.
I have both Kindle and Nook for PC loaded on my mini computer. Each program has its own peculiarities but both are easy to
use and have adjustable font sizes that make them very pleasant readers. Many books are available free on both sites. Below
is a list of sources where free ebooks may be found.
CONVERTERS
Free downloads can be located from the links below but may need to be converted to be read in the reader you have chosen.
The easiest converter to use seems to be the "Calibre." Basically all the is necessary it to load the file you want to convert and
tell the program the application in which you desire to use the file.
Calibre Described as "One stop solution for all your ebook needs."
Calibre Users Manual
MobiPockert Creator This application can be used to create E-Books for publication or uploading to websites. The application is
also suitable for converting files to be used in Kindle or Nook applications.
Both Bible software programs listed below have numerous commentaries, dictionaries, and books available along with the
various versions of the Bible. In addition to the free modules there are many paid for additions that can be secured for the
programs.
E-Sword -- This is my choice of the two programs for ease of use and availability of resources. Includes a small step-library
Online Bible -- This program has some Creation modules available.
The Word -- Doctor Dave T recommends this over E-Sword. Try them both and use the one you like.
